1952 - COLNAGO WORKSHOP OPENED
His first workshop is a small,
25 sq metre shop at No. 10 Via Garibaldi, Cambiago.
Ernesto’s father cuts down the family’s mulberry tree to make a workbench.
1970 - FIRST MILAN-SANREMO WIN
Michele Dancelli wins the great Italian Classic Milano-Sanremo in a solo breakaway.
Behind him in the team car is an exultant Ernesto with a bicycle on his shoulder.
1987 - FIRST CARBON FIBER PROTOTYPE
The first fruit of Colnago and Ferrari Engineering’s cooperation is the Concept bicycle, with carbon fiber tubes, composite three-spoke wheels and a gear system enclosed in the chainrings. The unusual gears make it too heavy for production, but the ideas in its frame inform all subsequent Colnago carbon fiber bicycles.
1994 - THE MAPEI ERA BEGINS
The planets align for Georgio Squinzi’s fledgling Mapei team and Colnago as the management of the Spanish Clas team - sponsored by Colnago - decides to reduce its involvement in cycling. Squinzi snaps up Clas’s riders and bike sponsor and one of the most successful collaborations of the modern era begins
